I saw this amazing tree, covered with conical thorns, looking certainly uninviting. I believe this tree belongs to the genus Ceiba.
Me: “Oooh! Such a scary tree!
Tree: “Don’t judge me by my looks, lady. I’m kind, let me gift you a mirror.”

Every branch, even the smallest one, is ornamented with such sharp spikes. The leaves look innocent though, as if they’ve got nothing to do with the scary branches.
Leaf : “At least, I’m pretty!”
Branch: Sharpening its spikes in the wind, “You said something, leaf?”
Leaf: Now scared, “I said, I’m pitied!”

I guess it looked uninviting only for me. I saw a few ants coolly climbing this tree. I couldn’t help but wonder what they felt, as they treaded along this dangerous looking trail. May be its just a fun trek for these guys!
Ants: “Lets see who gets to the top, first. The one who reaches first, gets to sleep with the Queen! C’mon!”

This reminds me of the widely opened mouth of a crocodile or an alligator, with sharp teeth. Yikes!
Dinosaur: “Hey! It kinda looks like my teeth too!”.

Well, if this tree doesn’t spell Danger!, then what does?

Fascinating. I’m wondering what the spikes are defending. Fruit?

I believe it is to prevent animals from climbing the tree.

Thanks, Anne. You’re too kind. The name plate for the tree wasn’t clear. I guess it belongs to the Ceiba genus.

Compliment deserved. 🙂 I like trees although I don’t get to be around many often. Maybe I’ll meet this one someday. 😉
